Integrating VMware Business Management (ITBM) with AWS Part-2 (S3 Bucket)

Well in Part 1 of integrating VMware vCloud Business/VMware ITBM with AWS, i had written about how do it and in this let’s see how to prepare and S3 bucket for ITBM integration.

If you have missed to read the part1 you could read it here Integrating VMware ITBM with AWS

Summary:

1) Create and S3 bucket

2) Apply Policies and Permissions to the S3 bucket

3) Generate a new access and secret key for ITBM (you dont want to use the root account)

4) In AWS billing management console set the preferences to receive bills to an S3 bucket

In detail

1) Create and S3 bucket in AWS

2) Apply a bucket policy

3) Once you have the bucket apply the policy to the bucket (a sample policy could look something like below)

{
“Version”: “2008-10-17”,
“Id”: “Policy000000000”,
“Statement”: [
{
“Sid”: “Stmt1335892150622”,
“Effect”: “Allow”,
“Principal”: {
“AWS”: “arn:aws:iam::000000000:yours3bucketname”
},
“Action”: [
“s3:GetBucketAcl”,
“s3:GetBucketPolicy”
],
“Resource”: “arn:aws:s3:::yours3bucketname”
},
{
“Sid”: “Stmtbalbabalb”,
“Effect”: “Allow”,
“Principal”: {
“AWS”: “arn:aws:iam::0000000:awsusername”
},
“Action”: “s3:PutObject”,
“Resource”: “arn:aws:s3:::yours3bucketname/*”
}
]
}

4) You could either use a policy generator or you could use the sample policy generator for the same.

5) In AWS billing management console set the preferences to receive bills to an S3 bucket, verify to check if you are able to redirect bills to the S3 bucket.

Now all you have make sure you have some of the reports in the bucket and then you could monitor public cloud reports in VMware ITBM/vRealize Business Management.
